University of Ibadan Exams On Hold After Student Slumps During Semester Papers

University of Ibadan
A student of the University of Ibadan, identified as Peluwura Bolaji, slumped and passed on Friday, August 14; in the course of writing the first semester examinations.

Bolaji was a 1oo level student of Political Science.

The sad incident took place at about 1:30PM on Friday, just after the student had written a paper at the Adebayo Akande venue in Lagos.

The deceased was running a Distance Learning program at the institution and so had to write the semester papers at the Adebayo Akande Distance Learning Centre of the University, at Oba Akran, Ikeja, Lagos.

It was gathered that Bolaji complained of dizziness, requesting some time to rest before writing the next paper, after which he slumped.

He was then rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where the authorities refused to admit him on the grounds that he had already passed on.

In a funny twist, the late student was said to draw in breath as he was taken back to the DLC at Oba Akran, a move that led to taking him to yet another hospital.

This time, he was rushed to Lagoon Hospital, Awolowo Way, Ikeja; but he was pronounced dead yet again.
Authorities at the University of Ibadan have since put all exams at the center on hold in the wake of the incident, even as a faction of the students are blaming the deceased’s unfortunate circumstance on the lax management of the institution.

They claim he could have survived had he been provided instant, adequate medical support upon slumping.

In a similar occurrence in May, 2015; students of the University of Ibadan were seen protesting the death of a fellow student as they blocked the Mokola-Ojojo Road in Ibadan.

The student, simply identified as Alaran, slumped in the course of a UEFA Champions League knock-out match between Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
